      Closed circuit television systems are intended for real-time surveillance activities and / or targets to be protected and record images for periodic review, alarms checking, alarm intervention assistance or post-event analysis.

      For image acquisition devices, the most common are:
       indoor or outdoor fixed CCTV cameras
       indoor or outdoor mobile CCTV cameras,
       megapixel cameras
       fixed , transfocal or varifocal lenses
       visible or infrared spectrum lighting equipments.

      To support the surveying and recording functions, the most common equipment are:
       video monitors;
       video multiplexers and matrices;
       digital image recorders;
       image transmitting equipments on electric cables, optical cables, radio and data networks.

      Closed circuit television systems may be components of alarm systems and intrusion protection as specified in GD 1010/2004. CCTV systems may contribute to the intrusion detection function by automatically detecting the movement of suspicious activity, the appearance or disappearance of objects.

      Modern trends in mind:
       European standards harmonization on closed circuit television systems for security applications (the family of SR / EN 50 132);
       implementation of closed circuit television functions through IT&C technologies in both the imaging and processing, and their classification and archiving;
       extending the use of high resolution (megapixel) CCTV cameras.
